1 大卫年纪老迈，日子满足，就立他儿子所罗门作以色列的王。
When David was old and full of years, he made his son Solomon king over Israel. |
2 大卫招聚以色列的众首领和祭司利未人。
He also gathered together all the leaders of Israel, as well as the priests and Levites. |
3 利未人从三十岁以外的都被数点，他们男丁的数目共有三万八千。
The Levites thirty years old or more were counted, and the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand. |
4 其中有二万四千人管理耶和华殿的事，有六千人作官长和士师，
David said, "Of these, twenty-four thousand are to supervise the work of the temple of the LORD and six thousand are to be officials and judges. |
5 有四千人作守门的，又有四千人用大卫所作的乐器颂赞耶和华。
Four thousand are to be gatekeepers and four thousand are to praise the LORD with the musical instruments I have provided for that purpose." |
6 大卫将利未人革顺，哥辖，米拉利的子孙分了班次。
David divided the Levites into groups corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. |
7 革顺的子孙有拉但和示每。
Belonging to the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei. |
8 拉但的长子是耶歇，还有细坦和约珥，共三人。
The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the first, Zetham and Joel--three in all. |
9 示每的儿子是示罗密，哈薛，哈兰三人。这是拉但族的族长。
The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel and Haran--three in all. These were the heads of the families of Ladan. |
10 示每的儿子是雅哈，细拿，耶乌施，比利亚共四人。
And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Ziza, Jeush and Beriah. These were the sons of Shimei--four in all. |
11 雅哈是长子，细撒是次子。但耶乌施和比利亚的子孙不多，所以算为一族。
Jahath was the first and Ziza the second, but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons; so they were counted as one family with one assignment. |
12 哥辖的儿子是暗兰，以斯哈，希伯伦，乌薛共四人。
The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel--four in all. |
13 暗兰的儿子是亚伦，摩西。亚伦和他的子孙分出来，好分别至圣的物，在耶和华面前烧香，事奉他，奉他的名祝福，直到永远。
The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart, he and his descendants forever, to consecrate the most holy things, to offer sacrifices before the LORD, to minister before him and to pronounce blessings in his name forever. |
14 至于神人摩西，他的子孙名字记在利未支派的册上。
The sons of Moses the man of God were counted as part of the tribe of Levi. |
15 摩西的儿子是革舜和以利以谢。
The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer. |
16 革舜的长子是细布业。
The descendants of Gershom: Shubael was the first. |
17 以利以谢的儿子是利哈比雅。以利以谢没有别的儿子，但利哈比雅的子孙甚多。
The descendants of Eliezer: Rehabiah was the first. Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very numerous. |
18 以斯哈的长子是示罗密。
The sons of Izhar: Shelomith was the first. |
19 希伯伦的长子是耶利雅，次子是亚玛利亚，三子是雅哈悉，四子是耶加面。
The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third and Jekameam the fourth. |
20 乌薛的长子是米迦，次子是耶西雅。
The sons of Uzziel: Micah the first and Isshiah the second. |
21 米拉利的儿子是抹利，母示。抹利的儿子是以利亚撒，基士。
The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish. |
22 以利亚撒死了，没有儿子，只有女儿，他们本族基士的儿子娶了她们为妻。
Eleazar died without having sons: he had only daughters. Their cousins, the sons of Kish, married them. |
23 母示的儿子是末力，以得，耶利摩共三人。
The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder and Jerimoth--three in all. |
24 以上利未子孙作族长的，照着男丁的数目，从二十岁以外，都办耶和华殿的事务。
These were the descendants of Levi by their families--the heads of families as they were registered under their names and counted individually, that is, the workers twenty years old or more who served in the temple of the LORD. |
25 大卫说，耶和华以色列的神已经使他的百姓平安，他永远住在耶路撒冷。
For David had said, "Since the LORD, the God of Israel, has granted rest to his people and has come to dwell in Jerusalem forever, |
26 利未人不必再抬帐幕和其中所用的一切器皿了。
the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the articles used in its service." |
27 照着大卫临终所吩咐的，利未人从二十岁以外的都被数点。
According to the last instructions of David, the Levites were counted from those twenty years old or more. |
28 他们的职任是服事亚伦的子孙，在耶和华的殿和院子，并屋中办事，洁净一切圣物，就是办神殿的事务，
The duty of the Levites was to help Aaron's descendants in the service of the temple of the LORD: to be in charge of the courtyards, the side rooms, the purification of all sacred things and the performance of other duties at the house of God. |
29 并管理陈设饼，素祭的细面，或无酵薄饼，或用盘烤，或用油调和的物，又管理各样的升斗尺度。
They were in charge of the bread set out on the table, the flour for the grain offerings, the unleavened wafers, the baking and the mixing, and all measurements of quantity and size. |
30 每日早晚，站立称谢赞美耶和华，
They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD. They were to do the same in the evening |
31 又在安息日，月朔，并节期，按数照例，将燔祭常常献给耶和华。
and whenever burnt offerings were presented to the LORD on Sabbaths and at New Moon festivals and at appointed feasts. They were to serve before the LORD regularly in the proper number and in the way prescribed for them. |
32 又看守会幕和圣所，并守耶和华吩咐他们弟兄亚伦子孙的，办耶和华殿的事。
And so the Levites carried out their responsibilities for the Tent of Meeting, for the Holy Place and, under their brothers the descendants of Aaron, for the service of the temple of the LORD. |
